1. Free Food

One of the things that is fun about having a cafe is all the free food we get. Right now I'm having iced coffee from the latest batch brought home to taste test. I also had a free beer at lunch and free pasta for dinner last night. But that's funny, isn't it? Because we bought a cafe.

This morning I went along to Restaurant Depot to get groceries and supplies. I've only been once before so was reminiscing. They have everything there, and in bulk. I know all this is obvious, but it's quite eye-opening to see first hand. I realize how much I disrespect and waste. Things like coffee stirrers (did I used to use two and barely give my coffee a whirl?), crushed red pepper packets (how many of those are laying around?), to-go containers, and napkins (did I need so many?). Everything costs money.

Back at the cafe we put the cans of pop in the cooler case and I remembered how I was the first person to stock it back in November. How long it took to wash each of those trays and how fun and annoying it was to get each drink in its thingie when it slides down to the front and I have to hold the glass door open. Does that make sense? You know what I mean... back in college we could load it from the back.

It's incredible that it's been going on for 6 months, felt like just yesterday and felt like forever ago. It's fun, it's going well, business is up, we're hiring more staff, I have been able to help with groceries on the weekends, and of course... free food!
